FAQ
!!to Add Answers!!
Is the honey produced on-site?
We do not keep full sized honey hives on our farm for safety reasons but our honey comes from different parts of Chiriqui and we have apiaries all over the Province. All of our honey is processed and bottled in our honey plant which is behind the Casita de Miel on site.
How many types of honey will I taste?
Our honey tastings normally include about 24 flavors of honey. This includes a number of single harvest unique origin honeys made from wild trees and flowers in different ecosystems. It also includes our infused healthy honey range with additions such as cinnamon, ginger, chamomile and lavender, 3 types of hot chili honey, lemon, orange, mint and chocolate.
What makes your honey different from other honey tastings in Boquete?
We invented honey tasting in Panama and were the first to recognize that Panama is home to many uniquely healthy wild origin honeys. Others have tried to copy us over the years but our honey tastings remain very popular for good reason:
- We have more flavors than anyone else and offer all of them to our guests
- Our experience is inexpensive priced at just $15 it is one of the best value activities that you can do in Boquete
- We have our own patented tasting wheel
- Our experience is fun and educational as are all of our tours and suitable for all kinds of different groups
- We offer opportunities to purchase the largest selection of honey on site available anywhere in Panama
- Our honey is pure, cold processed and genuinely from the hive.
- We also offer a taste of our liquor or honey wine
- We include stingless bee honey which is a unique and very valuable honey produced from the stingless bees that are native to this part of tropical Central America
What types of honey are included?
Our single origin honeys have flavors that span a broad range of global honey types from Apis bees that are a hybrid between the Western Honey bee and the African Honey bee: Fruity (citrusy, stone fruit, tropical fruit – this is because flavor is often a feature of the fructose in the honey and how it is cured just as it is in fruits), Floral, Buttery, Sweet and Salty. They are all colors as well from snow white to dark golden colors. Some reflect green light like the guabo honey.
Just some of the wild trees that our honey is made from include Colpachi, Guaba, Espive, Nance Macho, Araijan, mango, coffee.
We also include stingless bee honey. We generally offer honey from Melipona Costaricensis or Tetrogonisca Angustula bees.
Will I taste native stingless bee honey?
Yes and this is a unique selling point of our farm as we showcase 7-8 species of native stingless bees on our farm. These are the native bees of Panama and their honey is medicinal and very valuable. It is tangy compared to regular honey but highly prized in gourmet circles.
What are honey infusions?
Honey influsions are where our honey is infused with flowers, spices and fruits to give it medicinal health benefits and incredible flavor.
Cinnamon honey for blood sugar control and it is absolutely delicious paired with apples or toast.

Do I need a reservation?
It is advisable to reserve honey tastings. On busy days and in high season it is essential. Occasionally we can accommodate a walk in, we will always be flexible if possible but to avoid disappointment we recommend to book in advance.
Where is Boquete Bees & Butterflies located?
We are just a 3 minute drive from town or a 20 minute walk at the start of Los Naranjos. We are right before the cruce with the small lighthouse garden. Our entrance is signposted.
